  • PETITION SIGNING BREAKFAST
    Dear Democrats
We will be having a joint breakfast meeting for the purpose of distributing petitions and getting signatures on your own. This will take place at the Candle Light Inn, William Penn Hiway on Saturday, February, 20th at 9:00 – 11:00 AM. It will be sponsored by our State Senator, Lisa Boscola, who will be opening her campaign at this event. I urge everybody to attend. We will meet briefly after the event is over in the same room. Look for you there.
As many of you know 2010 is the year we elect committee people. As a Democratic committee person you work to build the party in your precinct, circulate petitions for Democratic candidates, increase voter turnout, and represent the Democratic Party at the polls on Election Day. Each precinct in Northampton County elects two Democratic committee people, one male and one female, who serve four-year terms.
Petitions for election to be a committee person will be ready at the end of January, and will be available for pick up at the Voter Registration Office, 670 Wolf Ave, Easton PA 18042-4343. In order to run for a committee person slot, you must obtain 10 signatures on your petition. The petition period begins February 16 and ends March 9. I would urge you to file a petition for committee person, because as a write-in candidate, for that position, it gets confusing for everybody.
We have many vacancies across the county that MUST BE filled. If you are an Area Chair or incumbent committee person you are the best means we have to find people to fill these slots. If you are interested in becoming a committee person, please visit our website www.northamptoncountydems.org for more information, or contact Joe Long at info@northamptoncountydems.org or 610-867-2764.

  • DEMOCRATIC TALK RADIO
We have been able to get a Democratic voice on the radio that will speak for all Democrats and working families in the labor movement. I would like to thank Stephen Crockett, the Co-host & Owner of Democratic Talk Radio, for his tireless effort in obtaining a spot on radio station WGPA 1100 AM. The show airs on Thursday mornings, from 8:05 to 9:00 AM. This is a major step forward in our difference of opinion with conservative talk radio. You will be able to listen either on the air in the Lehigh Valley at WGPA 1100 AM or streaming on the internet. http://www.wgpasunny1100.com

  • WHAT IS A COMMITTEE PERSON?
Two committee persons, one male and one female, are elected in each division/precinct for four-year terms in the Primary Election the year the Governor is elected. After election results have been certified, there is a re-organization to elect a City/County Chair and other efforts.
The committee person informs voters in their division/precinct.
    Committee People:
    1. Recommend candidates to voters by an issue education process.
    2. Help voters to reach a comfort zone on the entire voting process.
    3. Encourage and increase voter turnout by phone banking and literature drops.
    4. Register new voters, particularly the young and carry out absentee ballot programs for seniors and the disabled
    5. Provide information on current political issues e.g. Social Security, Medicare, Prescription Drugs, Jobs, Education, Student Loans, etc
    6. Help raise funds for the Democratic Party.
The committee person is an extension of the party and its candidates and is the most important and most direct line between all voters and the party organization.
When divisions/precincts are organized, the vote is maximized and candidates have a better opportunity to win elections. Elections are won or lost in local areas. There is no stronger persuasive voice than the voice of an active neighbor.
